You can now enable two-step verification in WhatsApp for iPhone. Once it’s activated, you will have to enter your passcode every time you register your WhatsApp account on another device using the associated phone number. Only after you have entered the passcode will you be allowed to complete the registration.
Two-step verification is a must if you want your account to have more safeguards. Unlike Two-Step Verification for Apple ID or Google/Gmail or two-factor authentication for Apple ID on iPhone and Mac, you have to enter the six-digit passcode which you create while setting up two-step verification for WhatsApp as the messaging app doesn’t generate verification code. Here is how it works:
How to Set Up Two-Step Verification in WhatsApp for iPhone
Step #1. Launch WhatsApp on your iPhone.
Step #2. Next, you need to tap on the Settings tab at the bottom right corner. → Tap on Account.
Step #3. Next up, select Two-Step Verification.
Step #4. Up next, tap on Enable.
Step #5. Now, you need to enter a six-digit passcode. Make sure to remember this passcode as you will be asked for it while registering your phone number with WhatsApp on other device → Confirm entering the same passcode.
Step #6. You can add an email address to your account which you will require while resetting your passcode in case you forget it. It will also add another layer of protection to your account.
If you don’t want to add your email, tap on Skip.
I would recommend you to add your email just to safeguard your account.
- If you don’t add your email address and forget your passcode, WhatsApp will lock you out of your account.
- If you forget your passcode and haven’t added any rescue email, the messaging app won’t allow you to re-verify your account within the next seven days.
- You will be allowed to reverify your account using your phone number after seven days. But, all of your pending messages will be deleted.
- If you are able to reverify your phone number after 30 days without the passcode, your current WhatsApp account will be deleted and a new one will be created.
You will need to confirm your email address entering it again. Then, tap on Done at the top right-hand corner.
That’s it! You have successfully set up two-step verification for your WhatsApp account.
How to Disable Two-Step Verification in WhatsApp for iPhone
If you no longer want to keep enabled two-step verification for your account for any personal reason, you can easily disable it.
Step #1. Open WhatsApp → Settings → Account → Two-Step Verification.
Step #2. Now, tap on Disable.
If you want to change the passcode of your two-step verification, tap on Change Passcode, enter the new one and then confirm it. You also have the option to change the email address associated with your two-step verification. To do so, tap on Change Email Address, enter the new one, and then confirm it.
Step #3. Finally, tap on Disable again to confirm.
